Last month I had the honor of representing New Hampshire on Capitol Hill along with nearly 700 other American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network volunteers. We gathered in Washington, D.C., to urge lawmakers to make cancer a national priority.

Together we called on Congress to support policies that help prevent and better treat cancer. We asked legislators to increase federal funding for cancer research, remove barriers for colon cancer screenings for seniors, help improve quality of life through palliative care and prevent flavored tobacco products being available to our youth.

Our team was able to meet individually with the staff members of New Hampshire’s U.S. representatives and senators. We asked their support for bipartisan legislation that will help save lives and end cancer as we know it. While much has been done to improve cancer treatments and care, with about 1,660 people dying each day from cancer, much still needs to be accomplished.

We also encourage members of our communities to join us at fightcancer.org to give us a stronger and louder voice in the fight against cancer.
