Letter: Gillibrand will make sure the country works for all of us

I want my children to live and lead in a country where our government and economy work for all of us, and our leaders have the courage to speak up for what’s right.

Kirsten Gillibrand will make that vision a reality.

Gillibrand is a champion for Americans whose voices go unheard. And she’s used her campaign like she’s used her time in public service – to spotlight issues and propose solutions.

In her first 100 days, she will implement a Family Bill of Rights, a sweeping proposal spanning from affordable IVF treatments to universal pre-k and paid leave.

A candidate putting policies for young families at the center of her campaign is a departure from past politics, and is exactly what we can expect from someone who’s defined her career fighting the important fights.

Just look at her work confronting sexual assault and harassment, and her leadership in the Me Too movement. Gillibrand stood up to the Pentagon back in 2013 over military sexual assault, and she’s never stopped fighting for justice.

I refuse to let my sons learn the consequences for sexual assault and harassment are only applied selectively. Gillibrand believes this too, and we are all better off because she bravely spoke up.

If we want every child to have a chance to succeed, we need to do more than defeat Trump. We need to stand with someone who is brave and will make sure our country works for all of us.

That someone is Kirsten Gillibrand.
