Firefighters said a 3-year-old girl was hospitalized after being run over by a car in Jaffrey.

Jaffrey fire Chief Keith Dupuis said the girl was just taken out of the vehicle on Sunday afternoon when, for some reason, it jumped out of park and began moving. He said she was caught by the rear wheel and it ran over her.

The girl suffered injuries to the lower part of her body and abdomen area, according to reports. She was flown to UMass Medical Center in Worcester, officials said. Her name and condition weren’t immediately known.

It’s not clear what may have caused the car to move out of park. The accident is still under investigation.
