D-II BOys’ BasketballFirst Round

No. 2 Bow 71, No. 15 Kingswood 52

Key players: Bow – Nick Kiah (18 points), Matt Lamy (17 points), Shaun Lover (16 points), Ben Harris (13 points, 7 in 1st quarter); Kingswood – Shannon Brogan (13 points)

Highlights: The Falcons executed the game plan the way they want to, controlling the paint and limiting the Knights’ top scorer Brogan to claim a decisive victory in the first round of the Division II postseason tournament. Bow led 22-10 at the end of one and extended it to 43-22 at halftime. The Falcons had a 60-32 lead through three before Kingswood closed the gap a bit in the fourth quarter. Bow hosts No. 7 Kennett in Friday night’s quarterfinal at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles defeated No. 10 Souhegan, 52-41, in their preliminary game on Monday. Bow has beaten Kennett recently, but it was a close 61-56 decision when the two teams met in North Conway on Feb. 28.

Coach’s quote: “We’re very happy with the win. We had played them previously and we knew what we were in for. We knew we’d have to get insize against their zone. We pounded the ball inside early and wanted to establish Harris and (Steve) Guerrette inside. It made their zone collapse a little bit. Defensive was solid and we were able to do what we wanted to do offensively. We just played Kennett two weeks ago. They’re a team very similar to Kingswood. They have great outside shooters so we need to play a similar style game.” – Bow’s Frank Moreno

Records: Bow 18-1; Kingswood 7-12
