High schools: MV boys’ basketball falls to West, Brady Alpine teams finish 4th

MV boys’ hoops falls to West

The Pride lost on its home floor to Manchester West on Monday night 66-58.

Griff Wheeler scored 21 points to lead Merrimack Valley and Eli Gove added 12.

The Pride’s record drops to 2-7, while the Blue Knights improved to 4-5.

Bishop Brady Alpine finished fourth

The Bishop Brady boys’ and girls’ Alpine teams both finished fourth out of nine teams in a dual giant slalom race at Mount Sunapee on Monday.

James Carroll (9th), Cody Fuller (14th), Jackson Bemis (17th) and Will Verdi (23rd) were the scoring skiers for the Giant boys’ team, while Grace Bemis (14th), Jill Weaver (22nd), Emily Bean (26th) and Maddy Ryhnhart (29th) paced the Brady girls.

Kearsarge, led by a 1-2 finish from Aiden Markoff and James Greason, were the top boys’ team, while Megan Norris, Maya Spiegel and Ellie Madigan went 3-4-5 to lead the Kearsarge girls to the win.

Sunapee (second), St. Thomas (third), Trinity (fifth), Hillsboro-Deering (tied sixth), Prospect Mountain (tied sixth), Newport (eight) and Newfound (ninth) were the other boys’ teams that competed.

Sunapee (second), St. Thomas (third), Newfound (fifth), Prospect Mountain (sixth), Hillsboro-Deering (seventh) and Trinity (eighth) rounded out the girls’ teams in the field.
