An hourslong standoff in Strafford ended peacefully with an arrest.

Police arrived at the home Wednesday morning to serve several warrants to a man inside the house. Sgt. Thomas Grella of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, whose agency had arrived at the home, told WMUR the warrants were for 55-year-old Mark Smith. His mother eventually came out of the home and cooperated with police, but Smith reportedly wouldn’t leave.

Authorities from numerous police departments gathered in the area.

Smith eventually was taken into custody about 10 p.m., about 12 hours after police arrived, police said. He faces charges of certain uses of computer equipment and endangering the welfare of a child, according to reports.

It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.
