Icy roads are being blamed after a Laconia police cruiser was struck from behind Tuesday on Province Street.

Laconia police said in a statement that an officer was dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Province Street shortly after noon Tuesday. While investigating the accident, the officer’s cruiser was struck from behind by a small pickup truck, according to the statement.

Police said severe road conditions caused four additional minor motor vehicle accidents at the location, and that all subjects involved – including the Laconia police officer – were medically cleared at the scene.

The accident involving the Laconia police cruiser is being investigated by the Gilford Police Department, while the additional accidents are being investigated by Laconia police, according to the statement.

Laconia police did not immediately release the identity of the officer involved.
