State officials say water samples collected this week at the Lake Sunapee State Park Beach in Newbury have exceeded the standard for fecal bacteria.

The Department of Environmental Services may hear Friday about the latest results from their samplings to see if the bacteria counts are below the state standard and beachgoers can go back in the water.

The state’s initial samples were taken Tuesday, and more were taken Thursday.
