Letter: Mr. Trump, your words foment hate in this country

Monday, February 12, 2018

This is a letter to President Trump.

While you are using the death of football player Edwin Jackson to ramp up the hate against immigrants, keep in mind that there are many tragic drunk driving accidents that involve American citizens at the wheel. Also keep in mind that we have immigrants who have served in the U.S. military, and then, after being promised citizenship, were instead deported. Keep in mind that many of the undocumented you disdain have endured tragedies that you in your gilded tower cannot begin to imagine. They came here to try to save their lives and the lives of their children. You gleefully send them back to hardship and death while your base cheers.

Also realize, sir, that we have in this country many heroes in the immigrant population, both documented and undocumented, who have risked their lives to stand up for what is right. One example is Antonio Diaz Chacon, an undocumented young man who risked his life to save a young American girl from a kidnapper in New Mexico.

When you tweet those outrageous comments, you help foment hate in this country. You belittle your office. Shame on you.
