Letter: Farmer, architect, attorney McWilliams running for state rep

Published: 8/10/2018 8:57:57 PM

I’m writing to introduce myself to Concord voters I otherwise may not have the opportunity to meet. I am a mom of twins, a farmer, lawyer and architect, and my family runs the Lewis Farm. I run a small business as an architect and attorney at the Concord Community Arts Center downtown.

As an employer and a working mother, I know firsthand how difficult it is when a family event such as the birth of a child, or sickness of a family member, impacts the hours you can work, and the bottom line for family finances. I will work hard to pass paid family and medical leave to protect families. I want to ensure that Concord’s future continues to look bright, and I will vote to ensure that the state fully funds full-day kindergarten statewide, uncoupled from keno, for all New Hampshire children. In addition, I will propose legislation to monitor and manage the cost of community college tuition, to keep costs in line with neighboring states and prevent “brain drain” when our bright students leave for school out of state and don’t return.

You are invited to meet me in person and talk about the issues at an upcoming candidate forum at the Newell Post Restaurant at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14. Most importantly, the Democratic primary is on Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please make a plan to vote, and I humbly ask for one of your two votes for State Rep in Merrimack 27.
