Letter: Many thanks for Fourth celebration

Sunday, July 08, 2018

I would like to thank the city of Concord Recreation Department for the excellent Fourth of July celebration at Memorial Field.

A big thank you to the Concord Police Department, Merrimack County Sheriffs Department, Concord Fire Department, and the Concord General Services for all they do to make this a special evening in Concord.

The music presented by Nevers Band was excellent. I love hearing the marches, especially the National Emblem March, Washington Post March and more. As I sat there listening to the Nevers Band, I was thinking back to the days when I was child in the late 1950s and ’60s and seeing the late Paul Giles conducting the band, seeing Priscilla Giles playing the snare drum or the big drum when they played Stars and Stripes, and then the piccolo always played perfectly by Debbie Giles Lincoln.

I can’t forget all the work Tom Cusano does in getting the bandwagon opened and setting up the sound system to make sure everyone can hear the music. I should mention thank you to the baseball teams who played in the intense heat.
