Letter: Shaheen’s record stands for itself

It seems the Republicans have a tough time trying to find a candidate to run against Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. Of their two front-runners, Corky Messner is using the Scott Brown modus operandi, i.e. using a resort retreat home to claim residency in New Hampshire, although we all know he’s really lived in Colorado until recently. Then they have Gen. Don Bolduc, who is being touted as a “native son” born and raised in New Hampshire. His military career is admirable and he should be honored for that, but the fact is most of his adult life he has lived in other places around the country or the world. And worse, they both have extreme values, claiming to be supporters of the president’s policies.

But Shaheen has been here for us, ‘in the trenches’ working hard for the families of New Hampshire since the 1970s. She has fought to keep the Affordable Care Act viable for the tens of thousands of Granite Staters who have depended on it during this pandemic; she has been working with the small business owners of our state so that the federal government is responsive to their needs; and she has been a champion for better veterans’ health care. Last week she and Sen. Maggie Hassan demanded that the newly appointed postmaster-disrupter, Louis Dejoy cease making outrageous changes. She has intimate exposure to the needs of New Hampshire’s citizens because she has lived among us and now her kids and grandkids are living and working here.
