Family deserves appreciation

Thank you David Doherty for standing up for a fellow Pembroke School Board member in a recent letter to the editor (Dec. 21). Sometimes we think that no good deed will go unpunished.

I would like to paint a picture of the family involvement of that school board member. Her grandfather’s name is on a plaque in the foyer of Pembroke Academy, thanking members of the building committee. Her grandmother was a substitute at High Street School while she was finishing courses needed to get her teaching degree. She went on to teach for many years. That board member’s mother was a teacher in the special education department at Pembroke Academy for many years. Her sister is currently a teacher in the special education department at Pembroke Academy. Her uncle was a teacher at Pembroke Academy for 19 years. I should also mention that the board member is a graduate of the academy as is her husband, mother, sister, uncle and many other relatives.

The dedication of many town citizens doing volunteer work, as well as paid town employees, is what makes a community able to offer a life experience that could not be done without the involvement of them all. I would like to offer my thanks to all who volunteer their time to make the community a better place for all.
