Letter: They won’t raise tolls, but they’ll take our money

Wednesday, December 27, 2017

I’m angry with Gov. Chris Sununu’s decision to not hike the cost of tolls because he’s looking out for the working people.

I’m the wife of a retired state corrections officer of 32 years. My husband worked diligently for all those years for not a lot of money but with the perceived understanding that he could retire with a comfortable health plan. That plan is continually costing us more and more money while his pension will remain the same.

It’s unnerving to know that state government can and will continue to take more money from us while there are alternative means to provide money for the state, like raising the tolls for the bumper to bumper traffic that comes in every weekend from out of state. Lawmakers would be a little more inventive in creating cash flow if it was their health benefit being pilfered from every year.
