Laconia police responded Sunday night to two separate motor vehicle crashes involving motorcycles.

Two people were seriously injured in the first crash, and the second resulted in a Woodstock man’s arrest.

Police were initially called to the intersection of North Main Street and Blueberry Lane at about 5:43 p.m. for a report of a collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle. The vehicle had struck the motorcycle while attempting to turn onto North Main Street from Blueberry Lane, police said.

The male driver and female passenger were thrown from the bike, police said. They were initially taken to Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia before being airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon for treatment of undisclosed, but serious injuries.

Approximately an hour after the first crash, police responded to the area of 231 Roller Coaster Road for a second incident involving a motorcycle. A motorcyclist had crashed his bike into a wall at about 7 p.m., police said.

The driver, Terry Whipple, 51, of Woodstock was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 5 in Laconia’s district court.

Police ask anyone who witnessed either crash to call Laconia police at 524-5252.
