Letter: Platform should include Medicare for All

As with any elected position, accountability and transparency are key. That’s why I want to let you know that I will be voting “no” on the national Democratic Party platform as one of your elected DNC delegates. In doing so, I’m standing with all four of Bernie Sanders’s campaign co-chairs and over 700 DNC delegates in voting down a platform that doesn’t include Medicare for All. But more importantly, we are standing with the majority of Americans and what you are asking for.

During the delegate election process I heard from many of you, and your message was clear: You asked me if I would fight like hell for Medicare for All. I promised I would. We are being told to be happy with the incremental wins and to vote for the boldest platform in history. But here’s the thing: Without Medicare for All, this isn’t “the boldest Democratic platform.”

Granite Staters deserve better. One hundred and sixty thousand Americans are now gone due to COVID-19, and here we are still trying to figure out what went wrong.

Our extremely profitable health care system benefits just a few corporations. Not us. I write this in the spirit of transparency, accountability, and making good on promises to “fight like hell.”
