A 31-year-old man missing since mid-December was found dead near a snowmobile trail in Boscawen, not far from where his vehicle was parked, police said.

The state medical examiner will perform an autopsy on Steven Woodward’s remains to determine manner and cause of death.

Police said they found no signs of foul play and do not believe there is a danger to the community.

Family members reported to police on Dec. 19 that Woodward had left for work in Penacook, just 10 minutes away from his home, but never arrived. A search was initiated throughout the town, and attempts were made to contact Woodward by phone that day, but without success. Police also issued a be-on-the-lookout alert to other law enforcement agencies in the state for Woodward and his vehicle.

Twenty days later, Woodward’s vehicle was located at a secluded area off Route 4 in Boscawen. However, search crews would not find Woodward’s body until Jan. 12. Police said several snowstorms presented a significant challenge to the search efforts and concealed any evidence.

Authorities ask anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to call Boscawen police Detective Jon Adinolfo at 753-9124.
