Letter: Farewell to a dedicated volunteer

Kevin Tucker of Penacook, a special friend, passed unexpectedly last week. His late father, Sheldon, was a firefighter for the city of Concord for many years, and his grandmother, Agnes Tucker, worked at Beede Electric for many years.

Kevin was instrumental in keeping Penacook Rescue active. He was also the key organizer of the annual Police and Fire Memorial Parade that has been a tradition in Penacook for over 100 years.

He was a big supporter of activities such as the Christmas parade on the Heights and the Christmas tree lighting held on the State House Plaza. In past years, David Hatch Jr. and Kevin would be there early in the morning to get the sound system working, erect the stage and test the tree lights throughout the day.

Due to health reasons, he was not able to do that this past year.

He was one of my major helpers, and I am going to miss him. He was very faithful to his friends and whatever he was involved in.

Kevin, I will miss you. Thank you for everything you did. Many people in the city think all the local events are organized by the city of Concord, but that is not so. It is volunteers like Kevin, David Hatch, Tom Cusano, James Cusano, Brian Waldron, Debbie Patten and myself, along with many more, who make them happen.

In the Grange, we have saying when someone passes away: Well done, good and faithful servant. You are now with your dad, whom you loved so much. I suspect you will be organizing something good.
