Don't let the chair fool you – Kristina Lucas’s yoga class is no easy ride.

When Lucas registered yoga instructor and began teaching injured students who had trouble getting up off the mat, she came up with a program using a chair to continue poses and stretches and help with balance – without having to get down on the floor.

Now she offers the class at the Bow Community Center – not just for injured athletes, but for everyone.

“I've had a lot of people when they were recovering from a running injury and they weren’t sure they can put weight on a leg or even get up, but they could still get a really good stretch,” Lucas said.

And even Lucas, who’s been practicing yoga since 1995, knows she’s getting a good workout teaching the chair yoga class.

“I always feel it when I am finished, and I have been doing this a long, long time, but I can feel it in all my muscles when I teach this class,” Lucas said.

Lucas teaches five classes for the Bow Parks and Recreation Department, as well as classes in Concord. For more information on classes go to bownh.gov or call 223-3920. Non-residents are welcome as well for an extra fee.
