A ceremony held at New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen aimed to salute fallen servicemen and women in honor of Memorial Day. Gov. Chris Sununu, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, Sen. Maggie Hassan and Rep. Chris Pappas, along with veterans and their families, came to honor those buried there. Memorial Day was historically celebrated on May 30 for decades, but that changed in 1968 when Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, designating the official observance on the last Monday in May, creating a three-day weekend for federal workers.
