Duane Hammond, an Alton humorist and artist, is helping to ham up the Sunday Monitor with a “pig of the week” from his Pigs in a Poke collection of paintings, which depict pigs engaged in humanlike activities and situations. His objective is to make us laugh at ourselves by illustrating that “pigs are really us.”

As Winston Churchill once famously said: “I am fond of pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals.”

We hope you enjoy and are amused by Hammond’s unique form of humor and respond with grunts, snorts, and squeals. Soweeee.

To the left is the first of Hammond’s pig of the week, “Pigskin Pride.”
