Police in Newburyport, Mass., have charged two New Hampshire men they said had more than $8,000 worth of the powerful opioid fentanyl.

The Daily News of Newburyport reports 34-year-old James Brooks, of Ossipee and 56-year-old Kenneth Lindbloom, of Tamworth were arraigned Monday on drug and weapons charges.

Police arrested them Saturday after a woman called and said she saw them using heroin in a vehicle in a Salisbury gas station parking lot. Police said they discovered nearly 200 grams of fentanyl, crushed Xanax pills and a loaded handgun in the vehicle.

Brooks is a fugitive from justice from New Hampshire and was held without bail. Lindbloom was held on $75,000 cash bail.

A defense attorney questioned the legality of the police search of the vehicle.
