Letter: Protect reproductive health care funding

As a young woman in New Hampshire, I urge Gov. Chris Sununu to sign a budget that includes provisions to protect New Hampshire from the loss of reproductive health care funding.

The Trump administration’s gag rule has gone into effect, blocking Title X funding for reproductive health care providers, and adversely affecting thousands in New Hampshire. Title X is designed to aid low-income individuals in receiving low- or no-cost health care, including birth control, STD testing and treatment, and cancer screenings. Over the last few months, a budget has been crafted that includes additional funding to be used as long as the gag rule is in effect.

The budget also includes funding to restore the HIV/STD prevention program, which has been defunded for several years. This is an important measure in combating the dramatic increases in STD rates in New Hampshire. A state budget that includes family planning and STD testing and treatment funding will allow thousands of New Hampshire residents to continue receiving quality essential reproductive health care.

I hope that Gov. Sununu understands the gravity of keeping this funding in the budget so that low-income individuals can continue to receive the health care they need.
