Letter: No to Pruitt

No to Pruitt

The Senate will soon be voting on Scott Pruitt’s nomination to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. Pruitt’s nomination puts our country’s public health at serious risk. He has made his career out of suing the EPA at every turn, blocking important public health safeguards and questioning the authority of the Clean Air Act.

It’s no secret whose side he’s on.

He’s received more than $350,000 in campaign contributions from the fossil fuel industry and collected more than $3.5 million as the head of the national Republican Attorneys General Association. His lawsuits parrot industry positions and put profits before public health.

Those lawsuits have a human toll – he sued to block the Clean Power Plan, which sets the first ever federal limits on carbon pollution from power plants, and would prevent up to 3,600 premature deaths and 90,000 asthma attacks in children every year by 2030.

As a grandparent and member of Moms Clean Air Force, I encourage Granite State residents to call our senators and ask that they vote no on Pruitt’s nomination to lead the EPA.

Our children and grandchildren deserve to breathe clean air. New Hampshire needs an EPA administrator who will put public health over profit, not someone who will rig the system to benefit polluters.
