The New Hampshire Center for Public Policy Studies’s longtime director is stepping down.

The Concord-based think thank announced Thursday that Steve Norton was resigning effective at the end of the month after 12 years with the organization.

Norton wants the time to “reflect on his goals and balance his professional and family responsibilities,” a statement from the Center’s board said.

“This was entirely Steve’s decision. In the board’s view Steve has done an exceptional job as both the organization’s head and its public face. He is respected by both his board and policy makers throughout New Hampshire,” NHCPPS board chairman Eric Herr said in the statement.

The board will appoint interim leadership soon and then embark on a search for a permanent replacement.
