CHIP Grinches

“I have a rough time wanting to spend billions and billions and trillions of dollars to help people who won’t help themselves, won’t lift a finger and expect the federal government to do everything.”

Chilling words from Sen. Orin Hatch, a man who complains about the Children’s Health Insurance Program and purposely delays the funding of money meant to help American children in need of medical care.

One would think the billions and trillions of dollars were coming from his own pockets. I would remind the senator that these are tax dollars he’s talking about and I, for one, am willing to spend them on American children who can’t help themselves or lift a finger to do anything about their economic situation. I’m willing to give my taxes to help pregnant women in need of prenatal care.

I would certainly think our tax dollars are better served on this important program than as a slush fund used to keep women quiet about sexual misdeeds.

Please include the senators who are dragging their feet on funding CHIP on your Christmas-card list. Perhaps you can remind then of the spirit of Christmas. Remind them that this is the time of “Peace on Earth, Good Will to Mankind.” Bah Humbug to them.
