Unjust and rude

I was appalled at some of Chip Morgan’s remarks in his Monitorcolumn on Dec. 17, which was actually a rebuttal to an article I had written on white privilege on Dec. 14.

Morgan claimed my article “sadly fuel the divisiveness affecting us all these days . . . with a specifically racist slant.” He further unjustly and rudely claimed that I “evidently espouse” to “the demonstrably racist views of Charles Murray.”

Good grief.

My article simply was describing how ethnic white people (such as Irish, Italians and Slavic peoples) have faced prejudice and bigotry in America. I also pointed out there are millions of impoverished white people who are unprivileged and forgotten in our country. It is sad that Morgan, who states he is “a liberal Democrat,” could not have a discussion without resorting to inflammatory name calling.

Socrates has been cited as saying, “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.”
