Morning traffic was snarled along the highways through Concord after an open-top trash truck toppled over, spilling tons of garbage along the roadway.

The tractor-trailer was hauling approximately 60,000 pounds of trash when it flipped over about 3 a.m. as it took the exit from Interstate 93 north onto Interstate 393 east, police said.

Most of the garbage spilled out of the box trailer during the crash. Crews were still working to clear the scene hours later as the morning rush hour traffic began, slowing traffic along the highways. Some traffic had to be rerouted as the garbage was cleaned up, according to reports.

Police said the driver of the 2015 Peterbilt was cited for unreasonable speed. State police did not name the driver or the owner of the truck.
