UNH mandates masks indoors, bars visitors in campus housing

Not even two weeks since the start of the fall term, the University of New Hampshire is tightening its COVID-19 mitigation rules and policies on its flagship campus.

All Durham community members — students, faculty and staff — are required to don face masks in nearly all campus indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status and effective immediately, the school announced Thursday afternoon.

“Cases of COVID-19 are on the rise on our campus — among those who are not fully vaccinated and to some degree among those who are — and while our test positivity rate is still below 1% and most positive cases have relatively minor symptoms, we are putting the following additional measures in place to keep our community safe and to keep our campus as open as possible,” UNH President James W. Dean Jr. wrote in an email.
