Tirone stops 34 shots to help UNH men’s hockey blank Yale, 4-0

Netminder Danny Tirone turned aside 34 shots for his third shutout of the season and eight Wildcat skaters recorded a point as the No. 13 University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team blanked Yale, 4-0, Saturday night at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn.

Ara Nazarian, Patrick Grasso, Marcus Vela and Michael McNicholas all found the back of the net for the Wildcats, while Shane Eiserman, Brendan van Riemsdyk, McNicholas, Wyse, Grasso and Max Gildon had single assists.

Nazarian scored his fifth goal of the season halfway through the first period to give UNH a 1-0 lead, but Bulldogs goaltender Sam Tucker (33 saves) kept the Wildcats from finding the twine again until Grasso scored his first goal of the season 48 seconds into the third period to extend the lead to 2-0.

Vela and McNicholas scored with 8:38 and 2:25 left in the third for the Wildcats.

Tirone made 14 saves in the third period to preserve the victory. UNH outshot Yale, 34-33.

UNH improved to 7-4-1 overall.
