Gun range concerns

The number of shooters on a given day who could use the indoor gun range proposed on the Hopkinton town line: 220.

This fact comes from the applicant seeking a zoning exception from the Warner Planning Board to build a shooting facility less than a half-mile from the Hopkinton town line and two miles from Hopkinton High School. Residents of both towns should be aware of this fact, as well as other information concerning the economic and safety impacts of the projected facility.

The applicant also proposes a gun store and possibly a restaurant and lounge. Immediate abutters – a thriving business employing more than 50 people and a family with little children – oppose the location of the gun range. This issue is complicated because the gun range is not technically in Hopkinton, but affects its residents and business owners. The Hopkinton Select Board meets May 1 (Monday) to discuss whether to join a lawsuit asking the Warner ZBA to re-hear the application.

If you want your opinion heard, email or call your fellow citizens on the Hopkinton Select Board.
