A 15-year old autistic boy was found in the woods about 1 a.m. Sunday after he ran away from his caregiver while hiking near Camp Bell on Saturday afternoon, according to reports.

The boy, his caregiver, and a Doberman Pinscher were returning to their car about 5 p.m. after completing a hike when the boy turned around and ran back up the trail, according to a New Hampshire Fish and Game press release. Unable to keep up, the caregiver reportedly sent the dog after the teen.

Gilmanton police and fire rescue, Lakes Region Mutual Aid, New England K-9 and a state police helicopter were all dispatched to help with the search, officials said.

The teen was reportedly found when searchers noticed a light reflecting from the dog’s eyes. The teen was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene and released back to his caregivers, according to Fish and Game officials.
