Henniker Community School hosted both their spelling and geography bees the first week of February.

For the spelling bee, students across fifth- through eighth-grade worked with the school administration and their teachers about spelling strategies, roots, prefixes and suffixes over the course of the month of January. The school bee lasted 17 rounds, including two vocabulary rounds, and required the moderator to move off the list of study words provided to students. Peter Bill (eighth-grade) took top honors as the 2020 Henniker Spelling Bee winner with the word “fungi.”

During the school’s Geography Bee, top honors went to another eighth-grade student, Brody Jones. Both Peter and Brody will now compete in the respective state bees.
