Police arrested a Belmont man on Thursday who they say was driving a blue Buick sedan that was stolen following a home invasion in the town earlier this week.

Nathaniel Moore, 30, was charged with receiving stolen property, disobeying a police officer, resisting arrest and driving after suspension. He also had an outstanding warrant.

The home invasion Wednesday on Dupont Road is still under investigation, Belmont police Captain Richard Mann said. The homeowner found his house ransacked when he arrived and moments later was attacked by a man inside, who then stole the keys to the homeowner’s car and fled, police said. The car was described as a blue 2000 Buck Lesabre.

The man escaped a police chase Wednesday. On Thursday, Mann was in his cruiser on Union Road when a blue Buick “that was stolen from a burglary the previous day passed the officers at a high rate of speed,” according to a Belmont Police Department statement.

Another chase ensued, this time along Route 3 before snaking through several town roads until Moore was blocked in at the end of a cul de sac. The pursuit included six police cruisers and lasted less than 10 minutes, Mann said.

“It felt like forever,” he said. “Luckily enough for us, he went into a double cul de sac road. Half went one way and half the other way, so there were two choke points.”

Officers from Tilton and Sanbornton supported Belmont in the chase and apprehension of Moore, who was not charged in the home invasion or assault of the homeowner.

“What we can prove is that he was in the stolen car and he ran from us,” Mann said, adding that Moore will be part of a photo lineup for the home invasion victim to review.

Moore, whose last known address is Brown Hill Road in Belmont, was scheduled for an arraignment Friday at Belknap Superior Court in Laconia.
