State officials identified the Concord man who drowned at Profile Falls in Bristol on Monday as 39-year-old Thai Chinh.

Chinh reportedly jumped into the pool at the foot of a waterfall on the Smith River when one of four children swimming there began to struggle. Chinh was related to the children, ages 7, 8, 10 and 13.

Bystanders assisted in saving all four children, one of whom was resuscitated, but Chinh went underwater and didn’t resurface. His body was later found under 8 feet of water down river, according to the state Marine Patrol.

Officers with the Marine Patrol urged everyone who is not a strong swimmer to wear a personal floatation device or life jacket, especially outside of designated swimming areas and when is a life guard is not present.
