Letter: A danger

January 6, 2021 is a day that will “live in infamy,” as will December 7, 1941, and September 11, 2001. It was totally appropriate that Rep. Katherine Rogers, a long time representative, speak to the Legislature and to us, the voters on the meaning and messages of that day. That she was harassed and bullied by a vast number of representatives (her colleagues) with a wink and a nod from Speaker Sherman, is a disgrace. If freedom of speech is denied to legitimately elected legislators, we are headed to a dark place.

Fortunately, there are media outlets dedicated to keeping us informed, despite the challenges. There are also citizens able to share their concerns and opinions without censorship. It’s tempting to dismiss bad behavior but we must call out bad behavior of those who violate their oath of office. History is full of examples of good people looking the other way only to find themselves without a country.
