For those who live at the southern end of the Suncook Valley, the trip to the liquor store is about to get a little shorter.
That’s because a new 12,000-square-foot outlet is set to open next month near the intersection of routes 3 and 106 in Pembroke. It’ll stock more than 2,400 varieties of wines and spirits and hopes to sell $3.5 million worth of products each year, according to a press release issued by the liquor commission Tuesday.
The location is a little more than 3 miles from the nearest state liquor store at the Capitol Shopping Center in Concord. But it’s on a route that is expected to see a lot more traffic in the future, said New Hampshire Liquor Commissioner Chairman Joseph Mollica.
“This location is of special interest, as the local traffic in the area is expected to triple in the coming years thanks to improvements in transportation through the New Hampshire Department of Transportation’s 10-Year Plan,” Mollica said in the press release.
The site, which is next to the Dunkin’ Donuts on Sheep Davis Road, is under construction.
The state-operated liquor stores reported last month that the fiscal year ending in June was the most profitable in history, logging more than $678 million in sales. By the end of this month, the commission expects its renovated Nashua location to be operational, which at 33,000 square feet will be the largest liquor store in Northern New England.
The commission also announced last month that it’s planning a new location in Warner. Work will begin in September to prepare for an anticipated opening in July.
