Pound-for-Pound: 4 new champions top the rankings

TEAM (last week’s rank)

1. HOPKINTON GIRLS’ LAX (1)  finished 17-0 after a 12-11 finals win despite being down two players for the second half.

2. HOPKINTON BOYS’ LAX (3)  went 16-1 and won a third straight D-III title with a 15-5 win vs. Pelham, avenging its only loss.

3. JOHN STARK SOFTBALL (NR)  won back-to-back D-II titles and finished 17-3 with Saturday’s 3-1 win vs. MV.

4. HOPKINTON SOFTBALL (NR)  rode the pitching of Megan Kimball-Rhines to claim the D-III title and finish 16-4.

5. BOW BASEBALL (4) used two walk-off playoff wins to reach Monday’s D-II final against No. 2 Hollis Brookline.

6. KEARSARGE GIRLS’ TRACK (2)  after leading her team to the D-III title, Mya Dube won New England 1,600 on Saturday.

7. HOPKINTON BASEBALL (5) beat No. 1 Belmont in the semifinals but fell to defending-champ White Mtns. in the final.

8. PITTSFIELD BASEBALL (6)  survived an 11-inning semifinal but couldn’t survive its own errors in a finals loss to Newmarket.

9. MERRIMACK VALLEY SOFTBALL (NR)  raked its way to the final, but lost there to Stark, 3-1, to finish the season 16-4.

10. CONCORD BASEBALL (7)  D-I’s top seed finished 17-4 after a 4-1 loss to No. 4 Londonderry in the semifinals.
