Concord, John Stark win baseball state titles; Concord, Hopkinton fall in softball finals

He opened the playoffs with a perfect game, and Concord High senior Jonah Wachter closed them with a no-hitter in Saturday’s Division I baseball championship against Winnacunnet at Holman Stadium in Nashua.

Wachter struck out 14, Tyler Wright made a diving catch in center that turned into a double play to preserve the no-hitter and end the game, and Ryan Philbrick went 3-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases.

John Stark baseball followed that with a 10-3 win against St. Thomas in the D-II championship at Holman Stadium. Alex Moore started and Austin Hazzard, Stark’s ace, finished the game for the Generals, who were making their first-ever finals appearance.

Across town at Rivier University, the Concord High softball team lost in the D-I final to Salem, 5-1. The Crimson Tide made some defensive mistakes in the first two innings and the Blue Devils capitalized on their way to a record 19th state championship.

Hopkinton fell to Campbell in the D-III softball title game.
