Around 1.5 million pounds of dirt will be brought into SNHU Arena to create the required conditions for the sixth-annual Professional Bull Riders event in New Hampshire.

The Professional Bull Riders’ “Unleash The Beast” season opens this weekend in Manchester, with 30 of the best riders in the world competing through an 18-event season to be crowned World Champion.

Round one will be held on Friday, with the second round and the championship round happening Saturday night. All riders will get on one bull each in the first two rounds. After the two rounds, the riders’ individual scores will be totaled and the top twelve will advance to the championship round for one more out and a chance at the event title.

That aforementioned dirt is a “special clay-sand blend establishing a firm enough surface for the bulls to buck hard but soft enough so that every rider is not injured when thrown like a rag doll,” according to the sport’s organizers.

It takes about seven semi-trucks and a crew of 30 people to prepare the venue. The event features 50 of the toughest bucking bulls on the planet, weighing on average around 1,800 pounds.
