Girls' Basketball
Newfound 52, Stevens 38
The arsenal of both half-court and full-court pressure is what caused the Cardinals easy turnovers and gave the Bears easy layups and deadly outside shots.
Girls' Basketball
Gilford 34, Belmont 31
The Red Raiders (9-5) jumped out to a 10-2 lead midway through the first quarter but it wasn't enough to sustain the victory.
Girls' Basketball
Winnisquam 37, Sanborn 35
Team defense was the biggest key in the matchup, allowing Winnisquam to edge the Indians. The Bears allowed only 10 or fewer points in all four quarters.
Boys' Basketball
Pittsfield 80, Portsmouth Christian 38
Pittsfield (10-4) has a tough week coming up with four games in five days, but started it off right with a blowout win on the road at Portsmouth Christian (4-10). The Eagles hung around for the first quarter, but were put behind for good at the start of the second half when the Panthers turned up the defensive pressure and went on an 18-2 run.
Boys' Basketball
Stevens 62, Newfound 59
For the third game in a row, Newfound (7-8) played a top-eight team in Class M, and for the first time in the three games the Bears took home a loss. Stevens (10-4) had a big advantage at the free throw line, but other than that they were matched evenly by the scrappy Bears.
Boys' Basketball
Belmont 47, Gilford 37
In a physical matchup between a strong Belmont team and a battling Gilford team, the Golden Eagles gave it all they had.
Division I Girls' Alpine
Concord ninth, Pembroke 15th
Keene was able to squeak by Exeter, 749.5-743, at Mount Sunapee for the Division I girls' Alpine championship. Bishop Guertin took home the bronze with a total of 712. Concord trailed Goffstown by only six points, but scored 504 points to beat out three other schools by less than 10 points to finish ninth in the tightly contested middle of the pack. Pembroke came in 15th out of 17 teams with a score of 220.
Gymnastics
Concord third
Concord earned a third-place finish in a four-team meet at Londonderry thanks in large part to Kaelyn Bouchard. Bouchard came in second in the bars, floor and all-around, while also placing fourth in the vault and fifth on the beam. Londonderry won the meet with a score of 129.1, followed by Souhegan (118.1), Concord (112.8) and Pelham (93.45).
Boys' Hockey
Belmont-Gilford 6, Somersworth 2
Cam Clairmont led the way with four points (three goals, one assist) for Belmont-Gilford.
