RGGI is useless

Re "Junk logic" (Monitor letter, Dec. 28): It is interesting how much passion a letter to the editor can arouse in people who blindly accept the pontifications of theorists they like but refuse to critically examine the theorems of persons they dislike.

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative does absolutely nothing to stop the emission required to provide green plants for our existence, CO2. Trees need CO2 to grow and produce O2. We need O2 to live. All RGGI does is tax us by establishing a large government bureaucracy to monitor emissions and forcibly trade paper among industries, merely adding to the cost of living.

As for the junk science regarding global warming, last March thousands of environmental scientists met in Manhattan to present their findings which contradicted in detail the pronouncements of the United Nations and pseudo-scientist Al Gore. Just recently NASA was forced to admit that its declaration that October 2008 was the warmest in history was false.

The theorem of global warming is also contradicted by data showing an El Niņo effect in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere in 1998 (a naturally recurring phenomenon), followed by a steadily decreasing global temperature. Ice records show that the current temperature of the globe is similar to that of about 130,000 years ago.

Should we take commonsense measures to protect and use the planet? Of course. Should we surrender our freedom to non-thinking arrogant extremists? No.

Rep. JORDAN G. ULERY

Hudson
