President Biden was correct in his decision to follow through on the previous president’s treaty with the Taliban to leave Afghanistan. His recent comments that no amount of temporizing would have changed the outcome, and that as president the buck stopped with him, were honest and correct. He made the hard call rather than fudging it with happy talk.

The Republican governor of Utah, Spencer Cox, also made a statement. He declared that his state stood “ready to welcome refugees from this war-torn country, especially those who valiantly helped our troops over the past 20 years.” Gov. Chris Sununu should immediately affirm that New Hampshire is also ready to stand by any Afghan citizen and their family who stood by American soldiers over the past two decades.
