I am always amused by letters sent to the editor that take enemies of Trump to task for “vitriolic, vituperative, vile, verbal vomit” when Trump himself always refers to his opponents in “vitriolic, vituperative, vile” terms. What is “vitriolic, vituperative, vile” about Robert Azzi’s words: “If they didn’t appear so oblivious, perhaps because so many of them are white and privileged, to the imminent danger we confront I might be more sympathetic.”

This is pretty tame speech compared with the “vitriolic, vituperative, vile” speech Trump and many of his followers use in reference to anyone who questions or opposes their illusions. And no one is to blame more for the degeneration of discourse in our culture than Trump and his media supporters. Probably not all of Trump’s followers are racists, but it remains obvious that Trump’s main appeal is to white supremacists, who themselves spew nothing but “vitriolic, vituperative, vile, verbal vomit” to characterize, address and disparage races, genders, nationalities and religions they hate or disrespect. Such racism and sexism is “deplorable,” and it is expressed both explicitly and implicitly by white people (mainly, but not universally) of all social, financial and educational levels. Trumpism, which is just plain fascistic populism, has one message: MAGA, which is nothing more or less than a code word for white supremacy.
