Shakespeare was a shrewd observer of human nature. His roguish character, Sir Toby Belch, fools the dim-witted Sir Andrew to stay out drinking with him (and keep picking up his tab) when he says, “To be up after midnight and to go to bed then, is early: so that to go to bed after midnight is to go to bed betimes”!
Rep. Michael Vose (“The real energy efficiency problem,” Monitor, 1/6,) uses similar pretzel logic when he claims that increasing New Hampshire energy efficiency will, through something he calls “Jevons rebound paradox,” cause us to use more resources. He must think we are as gullible as Sir Andrew and hopes we will keep footing the bill for wasted energy. Now, golly, who could possibly profit from our wasted energy? Certainly not you and I! Tell your legislators we won’t buy another round for Sir Toby Belch. We should all support funding the NHSaves program for energy efficiency across the Granite State.
