Letter: Our government must protect gray wolves

I’m writing today in support of issuing emergency protections for gray wolves and relisting them under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Wolves are being killed indiscriminately in the Northern Rockies. Today, hunters in Montana can sit only feet outside of Yellowstone National Park and use baits and recorded calls to lure wolves from the protected area. They are allowed to gun down as many as 10 wolves each. In Idaho, private contractors have been hired by the state to trap and shoot nearly all of the wolves in that state.

The Biden administration has the tools to stop this slaughter, by issuing the above mentioned emergency protections for these wolves and relisting them under the ESA. However, thus far the administration has disregarded the urgent calls from conservation organizations, tribal leaders, businesses, and others to do so. President Biden and Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland owe the country better. I urge them to protect and relist wolves.
