SB 418 could take the right to vote away from members of the military serving abroad. Members of the military are making massive sacrifices to defend our country and our democracy, and they deserve to have an equal right to vote while they are serving overseas. I served in the Marine Corps during Vietnam and certainly would not have wanted it to be even more difficult to vote absentee than was the case then. My grandson is from Weare and is serving in the Navy now and could be deployed during the national election in 2024. I would never forgive myself if he were to not have his vote counted and I did not do everything in my power to keep that from happening.

The timing for UOCAVA ballots for active duty military still may not work, making it near impossible that overseas military would receive their ballots on time (within 45 days of the general election). We are already under a tight deadline for UOCAVA ballots for active military members. I realize that this active duty military disenfranchisement will affect a small number of voters, but, every vote matters. SB 418 will create several challenges and is a bad bill that is nothing more than a problematic solution to an issue that does not exist. Lawmakers knew of these problems with the bill and passed it anyway. Governor Sununu must veto SB 418
