Regarding the photo several days ago of the flag-shirted man walking past protesters outside the NRA annual convention in Houston: he stuck his fingers in his ears so he wouldn’t have to listen to people shouting common sense. This person seemed to be around my age, just past 70, yet for all the world he looked to be a schoolyard kid trying to ignore the bully’s taunts.
Who is the bully here, though? Is it the millions of us who would like to see assault rifles banned and handguns regulated, if not banned outright? Or is it the man, the NRA representative, who cannot speak without a gun by his side? The word that comes to mind when I look at that picture, the man who chooses to ignore common sense, compassion and the common good, is simply coward!
