Kearsarge 1, Berlin 0
Key players: Kearsarge – Carly Grant (goal), Reese Lacombe (defense)
Highlights: Both teams struggled to find a rhythm early, but Grant scored a shot from outside the 18 (yard box) over the Berlin goalie’s fingertips and Kearsarge controlled the game from there. Solid defense from the Cougars’ center backs stifled any Berlin threats and the center midfielders controlled the middle, creating multiple opportunities for Kearsarge. Berlin’s goalie made several great saves to keep the Mountaineers in the game.
Coach’s quote: “Not our finest opening half. Always tough after a two and a half hour bus, ride but they pulled it together and took control. Proud of our seniors getting everyone together and getting the team to play the high level of soccer we expect.” – Kearsarge’s Dave Smith
