Mansharamani’s My Turn (Monitor, 9/27) confirms why I left the Republican Party. Mansharamani tries to whitewash the abortion laws that have been recently spreading across America. Here in New Hampshire, Governor Sununu signed a bill that allows abortion only until week 24. The Organization of American Historians suggests that evangelicalism (religious right) has been a significant force in the Republican push to make abortion completely illegal.
Guttmacher states that between January 2011 and July 2019, 483 new abortion restrictions were enacted in the U.S. The Republican Party pretends to be the party of freedom. I think of them as American Taliban. Why does the Republican Party need to control women? Why does it need to force an unwanted pregnancy to term? The idea that an unborn deserves legal protection as if it were a child is ridiculous. Except that religious wackos believe it. There should be no law regarding abortion. None. A pregnant female, her family, and her doctor, should be the only decision-makers. The American Taliban should be abolished.
